Ready Player One (Book)

I'm only half-way through the book,  (and only reading it to prepare myself to watch the movie). But I'll try my best.

The setting is in Earth ~30 years into the future, where the air is polluted, the resources are gone and stacks of trailers litter the city. Most people spend their days in Oasis, a virtual reality MMORPG that is now part of everyone's everyday lives, affecting the way they attend school, travel, or work.

The inventor of Oasis, James Halliday, became one of the most successful people in the world's entire history. When James Halliday's predicted but sudden death at 67 as a bachelor, the will he left behind in the form of a message contained cryptic clues and obscure 80s pop references, but as he talked, he revealed that the first person to find 'Halliday's Easter Egg' will inherit all his fortune and Oasis itself.

When Wade, an average poor guy in this horrible economy cracks the first clue of 3, he is now set to compete with the sudden rivals who will kill him to take the top prize.

The book is well written for a video game fantasy story, because I expected it to be more generous to the main character, like giving him some god weapon to defeat everything. It is sort of predictable, so sometimes I feel like just turning to the last page to see what it ends up as.

  1. I love that book! The rest of it is just as good as the first half.
